Paul Mac, Composer
Paul Mac is one of the leading figures in Australian electronic music.
He’s a conservatorium graduate and a multi ARIA award winner for his work with underground dance pioneers Itchee & Scratchee and for his own debut solo album. He has scored music for films and TV. His remixes of acts like Powderfinger, Grinspoon and Silverchair have also established him as this country's pre-eminent remixer.
To add to his impressive list of achievements Paul was named Producer of the Year at the 2001 Australian Dance Music Awards. He was also named Dance Artist Of The Year in Rolling Stones Readers Poll and won the 2001 APRA Award for Most Performed Dance Work.
In 2002 Paul was acknowledged by his musical peers with an award for Outstanding Contribution to Dance at the Australian Dance Music Awards. He also received his second ARIA Award (Australia’s Grammy) for his work on 3000 Feet High and was again voted by Rolling Stones readers, Dance Artist Of The Year.
Paul formed a band with Silverchair’s Daniel Johns called The Dissociatives in 2004. Their self-titled debut album was one of the most acclaimed releases of that year. The album was also a commercial success yielding two top 40 singles and was certified gold within a week of its release. The Dissociatives received six
nominations at the 2004 ARIA Awards including Best Album and Best Group.
In late 2005 Paul released his much anticipated sophomore solo album. Titled PANIC ROOM the album was written and produced by Paul in his Sydney inner city home studio. The first single debuted in the national top 30 and the albums first club track (Panic Room) achieved top 10 in the national dance charts.
